ANCESTRESSES AND FEMALE LEGACY IN MARIJANA ČANAK’S FOREMOTHERS

Using the term “gynocriticism”, coined by Elaine Showalter fifty years ago, and other critical practices which explore the creativity of women, the paper sets out to explore continuity of women’s narratives about experience, change, happiness and misfortune represented in the second book of stories by Marijana Čanak. Her collection of stories, titled Pramatere easily translated as “Foremothers”, delves deep into the lives of several generations of women who fight against the shortcomings of their respective lives, and struggle to keep the legacy of their grandmothers and mothers alive. Marijana Čanak focuses on the aims gynocriticism has defined as the most important, such as the objective to change the male-oriented literary heritage and to focus on the lives of women who have been silenced, marginalized and neglected.

DEFENSE OF HUMANITY – DEFENSE OF PERSONALITY

In this paper we will try to consider the problem of Body and Personality in the sci-fi romantic drama Her by American director Spike Jonze in the light of Christian anthropology and Theology of Personality. We understand Jonze’s art work as a case study related to the specific consequences of certain phenomena of postmodern society, such a salienation, loneliness or emotional instability. In his film, the director and screenwriter presents increasingly topical issues of our civilization, but also individual connection with high technologies in various aspects of life i.e. delicate relationships between man and self-conscious forms of Artificial Intelligence. By basing the film story line on the relationship between these two entities or two beings, Jones did not want to offersatire but to deal with the very delicate problem of personality ingeneral – alienation. As a result, the future world is inhabited by lonely individuals, inseparable from their smartphones, who receive love and attention from the virtual world. In his own aesthetic way, Jonze opened the Pandora’s Box of possible outcomes of life with machines, which has begun in our own timeline. Therefore, we cannot unambiguously determine whether Her is a film dystopia or a film utopia.

YUGOSPOTTING IN THE REGIONAL HIP-HOP

Through the concept of ‘Yugospotting’ this article explores how some established post-YU rappers, armed with the rap language and the strong generational knowledge, have constructed common identities in the new supranational social context before their shared rap audiences. What kind of transnational post-Yugoslav rap scene has been constructed by employing inherited ex-Yugo-knowledge and rappers ’hiphopographies’? Could this (mis)sampling of Yugoness and Balkanness be a significant identification base for the future rap generations of the “region”?

FROM THE CULTURE OF DIALOGUE TOWARDS A DIALOGICAL CULTURE

This article analyses the concept of the culture of dialogue in regard to three aspects: the broadest political and historical context; the potential which I find Christian theological thought has in this regard and which is usually not evident in the public discourse; and the actual practice of the culture of dialogue in the dominant frame defined by the media. My final aim is to reconsider the concept of the culture of dialogue in perspective of its possible openness towards the concept of the dialogical culture or culture as dialogue, which may be much broader and deeper in terms of philosophical and anthropological potency and relevance.

VALJEVO IN SEARCH OF IDENTITY

The aim of this paper is to study the development of the identity of the City of Valjevo. The research has covered the historical development of the city as well as external influences on it. Among these are some of the larger cities located near Valjevo, such as Belgrade. The paper has emphasized what is immanent and characteristic of the city itself, as well as the manner in which Valjevo differs from other cities in its surroundings, recognizing some important historical aspects of its development, institutions and people. In the end, a forecast of further development (progress, reversal or stagnation) is made, including a review of the resources that the city and its surroundings possess.

MEMORY ARCHIVING IN FILMS MEMENTO (2000) AND INCEPTION (2012)

The main aim of this paper is determining how personal memory archive has influenced the identity of characters in the films Memento and Inception. The above mentioned films, both directed by Christopher Nolan, belong to popular Hollywood production dealing with the subject of memory, offering various examples of semiotisation of archived memories. The main character of the film Memento deals with a series of mnemonics that help him create a personal archive of a suppressed trauma that motivates revenge, while in the movie Inception, the feeling of guilt is a generator of memory archiving. This paper will show that, in these so-called mind-game films, as defined by Thomas Elsaesser, the dysfunctional and irrational semiotisation of archived memories disturbs the psychological and individual stability of these characters, thus affecting their identity.

CREATING AND DESTROYING MILITARY IDENTITY ON THE EXAMPLE OF THE ARMY HEADQUARTERS DESIGNED BY DOBROVIĆ

This article examines and analyzes how the military identities of the new states (SFRY, FRY, SCG and RS) were created on the example of a representative military facility – the Army Headquarters building. The dissolution of the state and the creation of new states also destroyed the identity of the Army Headquarters as a federal military facility. The last damage to the military identity of the Headquarters occurred during the 1999 NATO bombing, when on two occasions, in the course of April and May, a small part of the building was demolished and therefore became unusable for its basic “military” use. However, a part remained in use and, as such, survived as a represent of the FRY/SCG community. Today, when Serbia is trying to build a new military identity, the authorities are trying to give the Army Headquarters building, which once represented connections with previous states and is now politically useless, a new role yet to be defined.
