Theater is still one of the most conventional channels of communication which, in addition to its significant artistic value, is an important cultural aspect of contemporary society and a powerful factor of influence on the development of public opinion and democracy. Facebook is now perhaps the most popular global digital communications channel, where the audiences are counted in the millions of users. Both Serbian theater and Facebook show a rise in audiences of similar age and sex structure, according to various relevant modern independent researches. Having in mind the adverse financial situation in the institutions of culture and the tendencies towards reduction of production budgets, the new digital media and communications over the Internet provide a great opportunity for theatre promotion. Facebook presents a real challenge for the Serbian theater to explore new segments of the audience, and to build its reputation and improve theatrical promotion in an efficient economical and innovative way.
