VIOLENCE CENSORSHIP IN CLASSIC HOLYWOOD

Text topic: Cultural Policy

Key words:

Text author: Љубомир Маширевић

This paper represents moral standards of a historical period which took away freedom of speech from film. Social control was very suspicious about film and its power to negatively influence children and week persons. American law, in first half of the twentieth century, regarded film is not a media of symbolic communication but of reproducing real events. Because of repressive censorship classical Hollywood film directors searched ways for non explicit representation of violence. These efforts created non explicit aesthetics of film violence which is very important for understanding representation of violence in New and postmodern Hollywood.
