ON VJING AND PERFORMANCE OF NENAD RACKOVIĆ

In its depiction of VJing, performance and the studio of the artist Nenad Racković this paper presents ideas for “new”/”different” considerations of mass communication digital representations. Racković’s VJing and performance broadcasted/performed while DJ played electronic (techno) music in the club (discoteque), turned to a subversive perfomances breaking the rule of “clubbing” spectacle. The studio interior the artist had decorated with images taken from the mass communication media (press, TV and Internet) thus making them a 3D network of digital pictures and the space itself a panorama of diverse views and experiences.

TV DIGITALISATION IN SERBIA – MYTH OR REALITY

Contemporary researchers believe that, in the near future, a convergence will be developed towards all portable networks having sufficient capacity to transmit all kinds of messages – from data to video, in real time, and towards a choice of devices allowing certain contents to be followed depending on circumstances. In other words, all content will be available on all types of terminals. News will be followed on PCs, e-mails sent from TV receivers and databases will be searched on mobile phones. Moreover, it seems that viewers will create their programmes, programme schedules and receive information when suitable to them. “On demand” services will be dominant services in future. This situation leads towards the division of the audio-visual sphere into two categories: on the one side, there are creators and owners of content and on the other there are transmitters of content. If we know that each portable channel and terminal device has its own characteristics, we can conclude that a producer and an owner of content have to process it in such a way that it can be adapted i.e. easily adapted for distribution over various channels and reception at various terminals. At the moment, televisions and production houses still have a certain type of monopoly over the production of audio-visual programmes. Exploiting and sustaining this advantage is one of the important challenges imposed by the development of digital communication. Due to everything mentioned above, the authors of this paper are conducting a survey on consumers of the media content. So far the pilot survey is carried out only in Vojvodina, and the purpose of the survey is to find out whether respondents are familiarized with the digitalization process.

SOCIO-CULTURAL CONSTRUCTION OF FEMALES

Cultural, social, political, legal, ethical and other value standards are very susceptible to changes in socio-cultural environment. These transformations are most visible in the cultural patterns, fiction literature, media and education. In our view, media and education play a crucial role in the creation of constructs – construct of femininity included. In the introduction part, analysing recent literature we discuss contemporary transformations of archetypical concept of femininity. We examine two spheres which have, in our opinion, the most important influence on the socio-cultural construction of females – the media and education. The second chapter of the article explores the impact of media on the construction of femininity. Images of women in the media are the result of general social climate. The latter may change by constant focusing on such topics aimed to result in sensitization of public, among other a seemingly small, but important thing in this process – the use of gender-equal language. The third part deals with the impact of education on the construction of femininity. Education is in fact an expression of the social system. It entails equality of opportunity to change the position that individuals acquire by birth or inheritance. We’re talking about European and international recommendations for the introduction of gender equality in education. We give examples of good practice of gender equality in education in schools and colleges in Serbia. In the concluding remarks we summarize the findings presented in this paper.

CINEMA/FANTASY
