DIGITAL MEDIA CONVERGENCE

By studying digital media technology and social changes in education under their influence in Serbia, we have examined the consumers’ habits, traditional versus digital media, as well as the credibility of online content that consumers are referred to. The general conclusion is that the Internet as a digital platform is commonly used in traditional (analogue) mode, as a one-way channel for distribution of media content and interactivity that is tantamount to leaving comments and generally arbitrary attitudes by readers. The innovative use of digital charting technology that provides unlimited possibilities – from collecting and presenting facts, through linkage with other relevant sources and documents, opening debates and facilitating participation of readers in defining social problems, their argument-based illumination from different angles to launching campaigns in the function of solving the problem – still fails to appeal to most. In this paper, we also point to the necessity of developing (redeveloping) research methods, typologies and techniques that will be able to encompass a larger number of those elements of the new media which differ from the traditional ones.

STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION OF THE ROLE OF CULTURE AND CULTURAL HERITAGE IN FORMING OF THE NATIONAL BRAND

This paper deals with the national brand as combined thoughts, feelings and images that certain groups can have about their own country or a foreign one. This paper also analyzes how this image is being constructed, as well as many economic and political consequences of a positive national brand that a country can have. Special attention is given on how students, future leaders, see the role of culture and cultural heritage in improving the image of Serbia in the world.

VIRTUAL LIBRARY

One of the requirements of modern society is use of many different media so that they become part of basic literacy. Since the libraries have an important role in the information society, this paper presents the concept and development of a virtual library in order to make the concept closer to those who distance themselves from the use of modern technology for various reasons prefering traditional forms of information. In this way, the communication between library user – electronic source could be easier.

CHILDREN AND CULTURE IN SERBIA

The aim of this paper is to investigate the outcomes and potentials of culture for children and youth in Serbia in order to create a critical survey and clear picture of the current position of culture and art in the lives of children and youth and create a possible strategy for development of culture for children and youth. The relations between culture, adults and youth, presented in the introduction of this paper, show that family environment has a great role in shaping the cultural needs and habits of children and youth. The second part of the paper includes international documents and articles related to children and youth rights to culture. Furthermore, the paper analyzes Arts Education, its role, types, and presence in Serbian educational system. In the central part, the paper analyzes current flows in culture for children and youth by looking at the responsibilities, strategies, programs and activities of state institutions, cultural institutions and civil society. Though the final part of this paper permeates conclusions which indicate that children and youth in Serbia are not systematically and mindfully exposed to the quality cultural contexts, although their cultural growth has great significance for sustainable cultural development of Serbia, the paper presents draft of recommendations for stimulation of development of culture for children and youth.

SERBIA IN THE EUROPEAN CULTURE ROUTES

The article consists of two parts. The first section discusses the elements of contextualization of the European cultural routes – the process of European identity and interpretation of European values and heritage, especially the relation between culture and politics of memory, as well as the mediation of history through heritage. The article further analyzes the historical conditions for the formation of cultural patterns in the area of present-day Serbia, within the circle of civilization, marked with contradictions along the East – West lines. It also underlines the ambivalence of value orientation of Serbia and the valorization of imperial heritage of this territory as a point of definition towards the modern European trends, particularly in the Balkans discourse. The second section provides an overview of the „European cultural routes“ and maps of alternative thematic framework for the participation of Serbia in the Council of Europe program, which will take into account the principles of cultural diversity and encompass a broader understanding of cultural heritage, as a way to establish a better understanding of the past and shared future.

BELGRADE IN CONTEMPORARY SERBIAN FILM: URBAN STORIES
